Alexander Milne Sr., 87, of Girard, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, November 29, 2019 after a battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Al, as he was known, was born on May 27, 1932 in Aberdeen, Scotland and moved to the U.S. as a young child. He was the son of the late Alexander S. and Henrietta Milne of Downey, California. Al served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War seeing active combat as a Radio Operator on C119 and then C124 aircraft. Upon his Honorable Discharge, Al began a 30+ year career in sales. At the age of 59, Al entered the Police Academy and then began an 18 year career with the Vienna Police Department as first a patrolman and then as the Airport Security Manager at the Youngstown Vienna Airport.
Al also had a strong faith in God. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Girard where he served as an Elder and a long time member of the church choir. Al continued his journey of faith becoming a 32nd Degree Mason with The William Farr Masonic Lodge #672 F&AM and the Al Koran Shrine where he rode with the Scooter Parade Group. Al was also an active member of FOP Lodge #195 in Vienna and continually looked to promote goodwill between law enforcement and our community.
Al leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Alex (Jill) Milne Jr., of Girard, and his grandsons, Alex and Ryan, and his grand dog Huey. Al is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anne whom he shared a loving 55 year marriage with and his daughter Patricia Ann who died in infancy. The family will receive relatives and friends for calling hours on Saturday, December 7th from 1:00 - 2:45 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Girard. A Masonic Service will take place at 2:45 PM followed by a Celebration of Life Service including Military Honors at 3:00pm. Al will be laid to rest at Girard City Cemetery, next to his wife.
