Anthony “Stogie” Sorrentino, 90
YOUNGSTOWN - Anthony “Stogie” Sorrentino, 90, passed away on Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at ValleyCare Northside Medical Center.
Anthony was born July 20, 1925, in Youngstown, the son of the late Battista and Theresa Propezio Sorrentino.
He retired in 1983, after 36 years having worked for Youngstown Steel Door as a riveter. Anthony had worked with his nephew Mark, at Sorrentino’s Orthotics, for many years, helping out with shoe repairs. Anthony was a U.S. Army veteran, having served his country in the 34th Division, in Italy, during World War II.
He is survived by his brother, Lawrence Sorrentino of Austintown; nephews Larry Jr., Mark and Michael Sorrentino; nieces Karen Cowher and Toni Sorrentino; his special friend, Marge Flicker; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and three great-greatnieces.
Anthony was preceded in death by his wife, the former, Mildred F. Schaner, whom he married Feb. 6, 1965, and who passed away April 26, 2005; his sister, Susan Sorrentino; and brother Michael Sorrentino.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 6:45 p.m.
Anthony will be laid to rest at Tod Homestead Cemetery.
