Bernard "Bernie" W. Charles Jr., 59, of Liberty Twp., died Sunday April 8, 2012 at the Hospice House in Poland. He was born October 30, 1952 in Youngstown the son of the late Bernard and Marjorie Anderson Charles Sr. Bernie worked for Trinity Industries for 35 years. He was a 1971 graduate of Girard High School and a Navy veteran. Bernie was the financial secretary for his Union Local #4960, and a member of the Girard Eagles Aerie No. 2172. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and his motorcycle. He is survived by his children Shannon (Thomas) Semple of Liberty Twp., Michelle Charles of Columbus and Tom Charles of Toledo, Step-children Kisha Stienstra of Warren and Andrea Charles of Girard, sisters Caroline (Dick) Derkach of Cortland and Marjorie D'Alesandro of Chicago, brother Chike Charles of Girard, grandchildren Julia, Emily and Mia Semple, several nieces and nephews and many friends. Preceded in death were his brothers Thomas and Richard Charles. Private memorial services will be held on Wednesday at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. A Celebration of Bernie's life will be held at the Girard Eagles Hall on Wednesday from 5-8PM. Family request that material contributions be made to the Hospice House.
