Betty A. Gilliland, 96, of Girard passed away peacefully at her residence on March 14, 2024. She was born in Morgantown, West Virginia on December 8, 1927, a daughter to William and Helen (Gary) Prosser.

Betty led an impactful life dedicated to helping others. She was a renowned swimming instructor for Kiwanis, where she shared her passion for aquatic skills with many individuals throughout the years. Additionally, she offered her time as a volunteer at Powers Auditorium and showcased her talent as a seamstress at Wittmer Smiths.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Betty found joy in dancing and embraced it wholeheartedly. Her love for movement and music brought light and happiness to those around her.

Betty was a member of St. Rose Church in Girard.

Betty is survived by her beloved daughters, Amy (Frank) Sobnosky of Girard, Susan (Brian) Joyce, and Helen Finelli of Girard; grandchildren Frankie Sobnosky, Marshall Finelli, and Harrison Finelli; great granddaughter Louisa Finelli and half brother, Raymond Swanger.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Gilliland, who she married October 1, 1949 and passed away on July 30, 2006; brother William Prosser and son in law, Samuel Finelli.

Betty A. Gilliland will be remembered for her kindness, dedication to family, and passion for dance. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 19th, 11:30 AM at St. Rose Church in Girard where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service.

Betty will be laid to rest at Brookfield Cemetery next to her husband.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Betty's memory to The Fabric Pantry at Kent State University: 515 Hilltop Dr., Kent, OH 44240.
