It is with a very heavy heart and insurmountable sadness that for friends and family near and far, biological and non biological my little sis Carla Barreca, 58, crossed over on Monday morning November 8, 2021 tragically and unexpectedly at her apartment. She has transitioned to eternal peace.
Carla was born on June 2, 1963 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio to Leo Joseph and Angie (Sherock) Barreca. She was a graduate of Girard High School Class of '81 and a 1985 graduate of YSU with a degree in Chemistry. While working at Tri-State Laboratory in Youngstown, she went on to receive a Paralegal Degree. Up until several years ago she was a volunteer in the gift shop at St. Elizabeth Hospital for 12 years. She was a die hard Steelers Fan and was also thanks to her boyfriend Anthony Fawcet, a basketball fan cheering incessantly for the Milwaukee Bucks, and most of all an Indy 500 fan. Carla loved Keith Urban, Elton John, Heart and Jeff Dunham. Memories of those concerts will live in my heart forever.
She was a life long member of St. Rose Church. Besides her father Leo J. Barreca of Girard, she leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Kathleen Barreca, her longtime companion Anthony Fawcet, her cousin Leo Welch, of Akron, along with her adopted niece and nephew Gina Gelsomino, and Eric Peter (Melissa) Gelsomino, her furbaby Gracie, and a host of extended family, friends and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother Angie, her paternal and maternal grandparents and her godmother Shirley Scarnecchia(Tom) of Niles.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday November 13th, 4:00 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home where family will receive relatives and friends from 1-4 PM. Carla will be laid to rest next to her mother at Calvary Cemetery.
I wish to express my sincere thanks to Father James Korda for his prayers and comfort. Also wish to thank Dr. Daniel Miller and his staff for taking such good care of my little sis.
I wish to express my deepest gratitude to the oncology department at St. Elizabeth, Dr. Frances, and his nurses, Dr. Herron and the radiology department along with Erica, Brooke and so many more. Also a special thank you to Karen McClurkin in the palliative care department.
Thank you to all who have reached out. Contributions can be made to Angels for Animals or St. Jude, or to the family to help defray costs. The family asks that if you are unvacinated, a mask would be greatly appreciated.
