Catherine M Murphy

Catherine M. Murphy, 62, of McDonald, died Saturday November 29, 2014 at Hospice House in Poland. She was born December 3, 1951 in Youngstown, the daughter of the late James E. and Mary Catherine Murphy. She was a graduate of Ursuline High School, Choffin School of Practical Nursing; Youngstown State University, where she received an associated degree in nursing and Bachelor of Science in applied science; and Gannon University, where she received a master of science in nursing. Catherine worked for St. Elizabeth as a RN, NE-BC (Nurses Executive Board Certified) Nurse. She was the nurse manager for St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital (SEYH) Coronary Medical Intensive Care (CMIC) and the Neuroscience Intensive Care Units (NSIC). She had been with St. Elizabeth since 1970 and was honored as an employee of the month. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in McDonald, The Lions Club and Catholic Nurses Association. Catherine was involved in Habitat for Humanity, Day of Caring, and United Way. Her interests include reading, walking, traveling and spending quality time with family and friends.  She leaves her sisters, Margaret A. Hall of Girard, Jeanne Murphy (Debra Harney) of Houston, TX, and Donna (William) Grombacher of Girard, brothers; James E. (Kathy) Murphy and Martin W. (Barb) Murphy both of Austintown, Patrick B. (Elizabeth) Murphy of New Jersey and Sean (Karen Garcar) Murphy of McDonald, twelve nieces and nephews, five grand-nephews and two grand-nieces. She also leaves her faithful white Maltese mixed dog name Zoe, whom when Catherine was home, never left her side. She will be greatly missed by her loving family, colleagues and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday December 3, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Edwards Church in Youngstown. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 5-8 pm at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard.  Catherine will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.
