Charles William "Bill” Ague, 98, of Girard, passed away Monday May 6, 2024 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Bill was born September 28, 1925 to Harold and Caroline Jones Ague in Youngstown, Ohio. He lived in Girard until moving to McDonald in his elementary school days where he graduated from High School in 1943. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17. Post WWII Bill was honorably discharged from the Navy and next enrolled in the pharmacy program at The Ohio State University. At Ohio State he met his wife of 70 years, Elma J. Haushalter. Bill graduated from OSU in June of 1950 and was called to immediately return to the Navy during the Korean Conflict. In 1954 Bill went into business with his uncle in his Girard pharmacy which later became Ague’s State Drug. Bill owned the store until 1975 when he sold it to Allen’s Drugtown. In the 80’s he left Allen’s Drugtown to become the Director of Pharmacy at Hillside Hospital .
Bill was active in his profession, community and church. He served on the Girard School Board for 8 years, 5 of which he was president; 20 years on the Girard Board of Health, 19 years as president pro-tem; founding president of the NE Ohio Society of Hospital Pharmacists; member of Kiwanis and Girard Sport Boosters. Bill was a member of both the OSU Alumni Society and an early member of the Pharmacy Alumni Society Board of Directors where he served a term as president and was appointed to a lifetime membership. He served as an elder at Central Christian Church in Warren where he was later named elder emeritus. He was a member of the 25 th Masonic District of Ohio.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Elma and son William H Ague, his parents and 6 of his siblings: Robert Burns, John Burns, Dorothy Davey Paschke, Harold Ague Jr, Owen Ague and Paul Ague. His is survived by his sister Mary Margaret Ague Hatt, daughters Elizabeth (Gilbert) Marling ,Barbara Ague (Thomas Safford), MaryEllen (Lawrence) Roth,daughter-in- law Julie (Jeff) Hansel, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Bill’s caregivers Annette, Jessica and
Christine and also to Hospice of the Valley for the wonderful care.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM on May 25 th at Central Christian Church in Warren, where family will receive family and friends at 10AM until time of the service.

Scholarship fund at The Ohio State University.
