Charles Walter Leavy, 92, of Liberty Township passed away September 28, 2015, at Park Vista Retirement Community. Born on March 9, 1923, in Warren, Ohio, he was the son of Otto Q. and Gladys V. (Smith) Leavy. A graduate of Liberty High School, he attended Lake Erie College and Youngstown College. A veteran of the United States Navy in World War II, he served as a Motor Machinist’s Mate on a subchaser in the Pacific Ocean. He worked as a machinist for several local firms, including Youngstown Sheet & Tube, Youngstown Foundry, Mathey Machine, J.B. Winkle, and FabArt, before teaching machine shop at Manpower for five years. He was a member of William Farr Lodge #672 F. & A.M. and a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Youngstown. He is survived by his daughters, Joy Ann (James) Lovelace of Ravenna and Carol Lee (Dennis) Wozniak of McDonald, two grandchildren, Alaina (Kenneth) Furlong and Matthew (Stephanie) Wozniak, and four great-grandchildren, Kenny, Claire, Bethany, and Maria. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Marjory L. Baldwin whom he married March 13, 1948, and who died on September 4, 2004, son Paul Lloyd Leavy and daughter Janet Sue Leavy. A Masonic Service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015, at 4:30 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home. Family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 3:00 PM till time of service. Charles will be buried at sea in the Pacific Ocean by the United States Navy at a later date.
