Charles J Smith, 94, of Girard, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown. Charles was born March 19, 1926 in California, Pennsylvania, the son of Michael T. and Claudine Naomi (Robinson) Smith. He was a graduate of Liberty High School. After high school, Charles joined the Army and served his country during WW II. He then went to California and learned to become a magician. He had worked at the Niles Daily Times, and was a wedding photographer, and magician. Charles was a member of Church Hill United Methodist Church, and the Akron and Youngstown Magic Clubs. He enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends. Charles leaves to cherish his memory, his sons, Charles J. Smith Jr., Keith A. Smith and Michael L. Smith, all of Girard, his sisters, Nancy Smith and Carol Smith, both of Howland, a brother, Michael Smith, of Stow, seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann ( McCay) Smith, whom he married September 12, 1953 and died May 13,2006 and his daughter, Barbara Ann Smith. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 23rd, 11:00 AM at Blackstone Funeral Home, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service and also on Friday from 5-7 PM. Charles will be laid to rest at Churchill Cemetery next to his wife. The family suggests any memorial contributions be made to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
