Charles E. Trebilcock

Charles E. Trebilcock died in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, on May 28, 2017, after living life to the fullest.  He was 90.

He was born on Seacrest Lane in Liberty Township on December 19, 1926, the youngest of five children of Arthur and Lavinia Trebilcock. Following graduation from Liberty High School in June 1944, he joined the Merchant Marines in June 1944, where he served as the ship’s purser. One year later, he married Virginia, who he always referred to as the girl of his dreams and the love of his life, in Boston. Following his military service, the couple settled in Liberty Township and Trumbull County, where they raised their children and lived for 65 years, before moving to Chagrin Falls to be closer to family.

In the early 1960’s, he founded Liberty Industries, a successful industrial lumber and packaging company where he was active until his retirement in 1991. In addition, he and his nephew Lionel Trebilcock, Jr. founded King’s Company, in which he remained a partner until his death.

Charlie, as he was known to everyone, loved to travel, experience new places, and meet new people. After retirement, he toured the United States and the world with his daughter Margaret, taking annual summer trips to England, France, Norway and Alaska, to name just a few. Whether it was on the ski slopes in Aspen, golf courses in Florida or restaurants anywhere, Charlie made friends wherever he journeyed.

He was dedicated to his family, making it a point to visit each of his children at least once a year, regardless of where they were living. Christmases at the family home in Ohio were legendary, with as many as 30 children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends gathering for Christmas dinner.

Above all was his commitment to his faith. He was one of the founders of Pleasant Valley Evangelical Church in Liberty Township, where he worshiped as long as his health permitted, and he was a member of the Board of Regents of Oral Roberts University for more than thirty years. His faith shaped and informed his relationships and the way in which he lived his life.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Virginia Trebilcock; his sons, Charles Trebilcock and his spouse Renee of Tampa, Florida; Robert Trebilcock and his spouse Margaret of Keene, New Hampshire; and David Trebilcock and his spouse Jill of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his daughter Margaret Ringness and her spouse Ronald of Chagrin Falls; along with ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
