Donald H. Thorpe Sr. passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours on January 21, 2012. He is now "Together Again" with his wife of 62 years, Jane, after a 10 week separation. Don was born in Youngstown on September 17, 1930, the son of the late Burton E.and Edna Herschel Thorpe and grew up in Churchill. He attended Liberty High School and moved to McDonald in 1955. He was a veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserves. A Member of Woodland Park United Methodist Church in McDonald. Don was employed as an ironworker and a car salesman before he started his career with the railroad. He was an employee with the Erie Lackawanna and then Conrail where he retired after 32 years of service. Don was a very genuine person who only saw the good in people and would do anything for anyone. He was a wonderful, kind, loving, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed. He leaves his son Donald H. (Joyce) Thorpe Jr. of Berlin Center, a daughter Kim Olson of McDonald, 4 grandchildren Amy (Curt) Hess, Nicole( Jeremy) Bartlett, Ian Olson and Jake Olson, 4 great-granddaughters Madelyn, Gracie and Mollie Hess and Ava Bartlett. One brother Burton (Shirley)Thorpe of Girard and 2 sister-in-laws Theresa (Frank) Dorten of Lawrenceburg, KY and Shirley (Ed) Moody of McDonald to cherish his wonderful memory. Besides his parents and wife Jane, Don was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Jerry Harper, Connie Arnold and Millie Arnold. Calling hours will be Friday January 27th from 6 to 8 pm at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard where a funeral service will be held at 8pm.
