Dorothy L. Bowes formerly of Ashtabula passed away June 9, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Health Center (Youngstown) after a short illness.  Dorothy was born in Ashtabula, Ohio on March 8, 1927 to Clayborne & Grace Pettit.  She grew up in Ashtabula and graduated from Ashtabula High School.  She married her husband Robert V. Bowes on May 10, 1947 and the two enjoyed taking family and especially grandkids on trips all over the U.S.  Dorothy worked in retail shoe sales for over 40 years mostly for the M.K. Boot shop and Richardson Shoes. After she retired, she was able to spend more time with her family which was very important to her.  She will be remembered for her love of playing cards, water balloons, traveling, hosting family gatherings, sewing & making quilts for her daughters and grandchildren. She and her husband Bob of 59 years were always helping and caring for relatives and friends. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Barbara Planton, with whom she made her home with, her grandchildren, Darby (John) Gravino, Christine (Kevin) Fedyski, Stanley Glasky & Robert Scott: and her great-grandchildren: Ava and Daniel Gravino and Abby Fedyski. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2006, her daughter Jayne Scott, her great-grandson Evan Gravino, her son-in-law Richard Planton, and her siblings; Woodrow (Bill) Pettit, Alta Watson, Anna Sckett, Margaret Loyd, Ethel Loyd, Doris Polkow & Grace Headley. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. As per Dorothy's request there will be no services. Arrangements were entrusted to Blackstone Funeral Home.
