Dorothy V. Gorenc, 89, of Struthers, formerly a life long resident of Girard, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Hospice House in Poland, Ohio. Dorothy was born December 23, 1925 in Girard, the daughter of Frank and Josephine Yelenc Gorenc. Dorothy was a 1944 graduate of Girard High School and attended Youngstown State University. She worked for 32 years for the City of Girard, retiring from there as their City Auditor.  After her retirement, she worked for Trumbull Savings and Loan Company in Girard for 8 years. She was also employed by St. Rose Church, taught CCD classes, worked Bingo for St. Rose Church for over 40 years, and  was one of the first Eucharistic Ministers appointed by St. Rose Church. She served on the Youngstown Diocesan Financial Board and held offices for the Youngstown Diocese National Council of Catholic Women.  She was Past President of the Youngstown Chapter of the American Society of Women Accountants, Past President of St. Rose Altar and Rosary Society, and was a member of the following Slovenian Fraternal Organizations: KSKJ, SDZ and SNPJ.  Dorothy was awarded the Pius 10 Award for work for the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine.  She was listed in Who's Who of American Women and was a Member of the Council of Catholic Women Associates, Province of Cincinnati. Dorothy is survived by her sister, Edith Mrofchak, with whom she made her home in Struthers and her nephews; Mark (Faith) Mrofchak of Poland, Michael (Norma) Mrofchak of New Waterford, Matthew (Ginger) Mrofchak of Columbiana and George (JoEllen) Mrofchak of Poland, and many great-nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her sister, Louise Gorenc and brother Joseph Gorenc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 11th, 10:00 AM at St. Rose Church, preceded by a 9:30 AM prayer service at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 6-8PM at the funeral home. The family requests any material contributions be made to The Hospice House or St. Rose Church.  The family wishes to thank the staff at Maplecrest Nursing Home and at Hospice House for the care and compassion given to Dorothy during her illness.
