Dr. John K Altier

Dr. John Kenneth Altier, 80, Of Liberty Twp., passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at his residence. He was born June 24, 1933 in Girard, Ohio to the late Louis and Adeline Sorrentino Altier. A graduate of Girard High School, John began his college career at Youngstown State University until he was called into service during the Korean War. After completing his tour of duty in the Army, he returned to finish his degree at Youngstown State University. He then attended Loyola University of Chicago, where he graduated from the Stritch School of Medicine. John completed his internship and residency at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He remained on the staff at St. Elizabeth's for 38 years, and had a private practice in Internal Medicine. He retired in 2004. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary (Dalzell); sons John, of Willoughby, and Robert, of Youngstown, daughter Mara (Thomas) Dale and grandson Matthew, from Germantown, Tennessee; sister Jean (Richard) Dahl of California. He is also survived by his aunts and uncle, many cousins, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Altier.Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday April 29, 2014 at 7:00 pm at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, officiating the service will be Msgr. John Zuraw of St. Rose Church. Family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 5:00 pm till time of service at the funeral home. John will be laid to rest at Girard City Cemetery.
