Eleanor Avona, 93, of Girard, passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at her home. Eleanor was born March 23, 1923 in Elkins, West Virginia, the daughter of Frank and Verna Chechitelli. She was a member of St. Rose Church, the Tri-County Red Hatters and the Girard Multi-Generational Center, where her and her friends enjoyed spending time together. Eleanor enjoyed playing cards, and usually always won, dancing, listening to Italian music, crocheting, bingo and bowling. She had a great sense of humor, loved cooking Sunday dinners for her family, spending time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing with her dog Gizzy. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, James (Linda) Avona of Boardman, her daughter, Elizabeth Reiser, with whom she made her home, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James V.Avona, whom she married in 1941 and died in 2002, her sister, Enis Canale and her brothers, John and Orlando Chechitelli. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 15th,11:00 AM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
