Elizabeth Furman, 91, of Mentor Ohio, formerly of Girard, died Monday December 22, 2014 at Hospice of The Western Reserve in Mentor Ohio. She was born June 14, 1923 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth Janov Smerek. She was a member of St. Rose Church and active in the church choir. When Elizabeth and her husband, Edward married they lived a short time in Youngstown and then moved to Girard where they raised their children. After her husband's death, Elizabeth lived for a time in Bluffton, S.C., near her daughter and then moved to Mentor, Ohio in 2010 to live near her son until her death. Elizabeth is survived by her son, Edward Furman and her daughter Elizabeth (Richard) Swader, granddaughter, Ami (Brian) Hall, grandsons, Michael and David Swader, great-grandchildren; Gwen Hall, Noah Swader and Brandon Swader. She also leaves her beloved sister, Molly, who lives in Albuquerque, NM with her daughter and son-in-law Elene and Robert Gusch, and granddaughter Lenore Gusch. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday January 3, 2015 at 1:00 pm at St. Rose Church in Girard with calling hours 12:30 until the time of memorial mass at church.
