Elmer J. Lovas, 92, of Girard, passed away on Wednesday October 30, 2013 at his home. Elmer was born October 25, 1921 in Girard, the son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Nagy Lovas. Elmer was a productions engineer manager for Commercial Shearing & Intertech retiring in 1982. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of St. Rose Church, where he was once an usher, and Commercial Shearing Golf League. Elmer enjoyed flying, was a mall walker for many years and would make wooden pins as a hobby and give them to many people. He is survived by his wife, the former, Helen Ryan, whom he married March 8, 1943, his daughters Gail (Bob) Anderson of Murrysville, Pa. and Bonnie (Dan) Malandro of Girard, brother George Lovas of Mineral Ridge, grandchildren Mark, Scott, Eric and Justin and great-grandchildren Kelly, Noah, Kara, Elliot, Carley and Dylan. He his preceded in death by his brother Andrew Lovas , sisters Elizabeth Castle and Irene Smolkovich, grandchildren Krissy and Ryan and great-granddaughter Olivia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday November 4th, 11:30 AM at St. Rose Church preceded by a prayer service , 11:00 AM., at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2-4 PM at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Girard City Cemetery with military honors.
