Emmor "Fritz" Snyder

September 7, 1927 — April 10, 2020

Emmor "Fritz" Snyder, 92, of Girard, peacefully passed away April 10, 2020 at his residence in the company of his children.

Fritz was born in Salem, Ohio on September 7,1927, the son of Fred and Mary (Fuller) Snyder. Following his 1945 graduation from Salem High School Fritz enlisted in the US Army during WW II and served until 1947. Following his honorable discharge, Fritz attended Mount Union College then went on to get a pharmacy degree from George Washington University in 1952.  At one time, Fritz owned and operated three drugstores in the Youngstown area, eventually selling the last store in Girard in 1972, but still practicing as a pharmacist.

In the mid-1960s, Fritz took the Law School Admission Test (LSAT).  Scoring well, he applied and was admitted to Akron University’s School of Law.  Fritz went on to practice law in Girard for the next 48 years.  He worked as a city solicitor for Girard and had occasion to serve as a judge in the Girard Court.

Those who knew Fritz know of his many interests and avocations.  He was a photographer in his earlier years and was licensed to fly small aircraft.  Automobiles were always a big part of his life.  He had a large garage to work on, repair and restore automobiles.  Fritz always had a project he was working on.  And when taking a break from projects, the garage also served as a gathering place for Fritz and his friends.

Married first to Dana Rice of Salem and then to Lucia Arroyo of Youngstown, Fritz leaves behind seven children to cherish his memory.  His children are Gabrielle Snyder (Erik Flamm) of NJ; Vance(Jane) Snyder of Lakewood,OH;  Brian (Nancy) Snyder of Greeley,Colorado; Adrienne (Bob) Fernekees of NJ, Fred Snyder of Columbus, OH; Gloria (Andrew) Muetzel of Columbus, OH; and Mary (Rob) Loeb of San Diego, CA.  In addition to 13 grandchildren, Fritz also leaves a brother, Robert Snyder of Florida, and  sister, Nina Wisler of Salem. He is preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Phillips, and brothers Ray and Frank Snyder.

Fritz served many years as a trustee for the Girard Free Library, 105 E. Liberty St., Girard 44420.  The family suggests that any material contributions be made to the library in memory of Fritz.  A celebration of Fritz’s life will be held at a later date.
