A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Frances Teresa Latell on Saturday, January 17, 2015, 12:00 noon, at St. Rose Church in Girard. Calling hours will be in the sanctuary of the church one hour prior to the Mass. Frances was born on December 20, 1912, in Niles, the daughter of Anthony and Teresa Lagana Latella. She passed on January 13, 2015. Frances was a teacher and librarian in the Girard City Schools for 36 years. She received an A.B. degree from Mount Union College in Alliance, an MSLS from Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and earned six hours toward a doctorate from Florida State University in Tallahassee on a state grant in School Library Supervision. After retirement from teaching, she worked as a court reporter in the Girard and Warren courts under Judge Joseph Luarde and Judge Sydney Rigelhaupt and as a transcriber for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Congressional hearings in Washington, DC. Frances did volunteer work included initiating the Camp Fire Girls at Tod Woods School, lay catechist at St. Rose Church and the First Christian Church, citizenship teacher at the Villa Maria Teresa (Oblates) Convent in Hubbard, Docent at the Butler Institute of American Art, a judge at the TRTA-sponsored Trumbull County Fair Spelling Bee and a papal worker in Latin America (PAVLA). She was a life time member of the National Education Association and The Friends of the Girard Library, a member of the Trumbull Retired Teachers' Association, and of Beta Phi Theta (French Honorary Fraternity), past-president of the Tri-County Journalism School Association and of the Mt. Carmel Society of St. Rose Church. She leaves a niece, Genevieve (Daniel) Hartman of Cozumel, Mexico, nephews; John (Marilyn) Latell and Anthony (Dorothy) Latell of Girard, Frank (Kathleen) Latell of Ft. Myers, Florida, Paul Richard (Eleonora) Latell of Howland, and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Jennie, brothers, Frank and infant Joseph, niece, Mary Teresa Vivona and nephew Frank Latell Jr. Frances will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.  Frances requests that any material contributions be made to the Oblate Sisters Villa Maria Theresa, 50 Warner Rd., Hubbard, Ohio 44425 or St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main Street, Girard, Ohio 44420.
