Frank Emery Hoagland Sr., 92, passed away Sunday January 21, 2018 at the Heritage Manor in Youngstown. Frank was born February 23, 1925 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late Floyd and Rachel (Hughes) Hoagland.
Frank served his country as Sergeant in the United States Army, 81st Medical Depot during World War II. He was awarded the bronze service arrowhead for participation in an amphibious assault landing in Normandy on "D Day" at Omaha Beach. Frank was a life member of the VFW and Girard American Legion #235. He was member of Churchhill Methodist Church. Frank retired in 1990 from Syro Steel in Girard and previously worked at Hill Hubble. His interests included gardening, landscaping and model trains.
Frank leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter Beverly (John) Clinton of Girard, his son Frank Hoagland of Germany, his grandchildren John Clinton, James (Desiree) Clinton, and Frank (Sandra) Hoagland III, his great-grandchildren Alayna, Luke and Clint, and his trusted companion and friend Cory Thornton.
Besides his parents, Frank is preceded in death by his wife, Ella Allen Hoagland, whom he married August 6, 1949 and died April 11, 2014, his sister Jane Lutton and his brothers Earl and Donald Hoagland. Funeral services will be held on Friday January 26, 12:00 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Frank will be laid to rest beside his wife Ella at Todd Homestead Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers the family requests monetary contributions be made in his name to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.
