Fred Charles Cole

May 8, 1927 — January 12, 2016

Fred "Freddie" Charles Cole, 88, passed away peacefully in his sleep, at his home on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. He was born on May 8, 1927, in Falls Creek, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Lillie Jane (Strader) and Cleophus Cole. Freddie served in the US Navy during WWII. He was proud to be a Navy veteran, always wearing his Navy vet hat wherever he went. For 43 1/2 years, Freddie worked for Conrail as a Supervisor and retired in 1987. Because of his railroad job, Freddie developed a love for traveling. It was through the railroad travels that he met the love of his life, Chardel Winner, whom he married May 25, 1974. Always making an excuse to talk with her, he won her heart, and together they had two beautiful sons. Freddie was an avid baseball player and sports fan. He was so talented that he almost had the chance to play baseball professionally, but a sprained ankle led him to coaching little league instead. He was a field manager during the 1990's for the Liberty Little Leopards. He loved watching his sons carry on his passion for baseball and enjoyed being at their games. Freddie was a member of the Bible Baptist Temple Church in Campbell. He enjoyed attending services and always credited God for all the blessings in his life. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Chardel, and his children; Shawn (Melissa) Cole of Georgetown, Jeremy Cole of Liberty, Debbie (Bruce) Johnson-Evans of Kingman, Arizona, and Fred "Flint" (Ruby) of Gary, Indiana.  Freddie is also blessed to be survived by six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews whom he always held dear to his heart. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Cole; his sister Virginia Cole Murray; and his brothers, Cleophus (Willis), Eugene, Willard (Bill), and Gordon. As Freddie would always say, "Everyday's good; some are just better than others." Funeral services will be held on Friday, 11:00 AM, at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Freddie will be interred at Girard City Cemetery with military honors.
