Frederick D. Faiver, 87, of Girard, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Liberty Health Care Center in Liberty Twp. Fred was born October 5, 1928 in Girard, Ohio, the son of Marshall A. and Caroline Applegate Faiver Sr. He had worked for Youngstown Lithographing for 40 years as a bookbinder and cutter retiring in 1994. Fred served his country in the U.S. Army, in the 44th Engineer Group during the Korean Conflict, being seriously injured in Korea in 1953 and spending six months in Army Hospitals. He was a member of the First Christian Church, the Girard-Liberty Rotary, where he was secretary for over 20 years and a past-president, the Warren B.P.O.E. #295, Girard V.F.W. Post #419, Girard American Legion Post #235, Disabled American Vets, Youngstown Oldtimers Baseball Hall of Fame, Liberty Township Baseball Hall of Fame, Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame, Trumbull County Sports Hall of Fame and Girard High School Hall of Fame. He introduced many student athletes to Hiram College of which many have graduated and had distinguished careers. He managed Zicard Furniture Class "B" baseball team for 10 years and Home Club in Class "AA" for two years. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Joyce A. Tupper, whom he married July 30, 1994, his step-son Glenn (Char) Tupper Sr., of Edinboro, Pa., his sister, Mary Lou Faiver of Girard, his nieces and nephews; Janet Gasser, Jean Anne Pinti, Connie Malito, Bonnie Santagata, Juanita Brown, John Yaksich, Michael Yaksich, Chris Faiver, Carolyn Faiver, Susan Noday and Marsha Morabito, 35 great nieces and nephews, 68 great-great nieces and nephews and 30 great-great-great-nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Jeannine Faiver, who died in 1988, his sisters; Vera Yasich and Florence Faiver, brothers; Gene, Marshall Jr., Wade and Howard Faiver, and two nephews; Dick Faiver and Tom Brown. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 23rd, 11:00 AM at the First Christian Church. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 4-7 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. Fred will be laid to rest at Girard City Cemetery with military honors.
