Helen Merrick

Helen Merrick, 92, formerly of Liberty Twp,peacefully  passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Omni Manor in Youngstown, where she had been a resident for the past eight years. Helen shouldered the burdens of her declining health with dignity, strength and courage. She was born June 7, 1924 in Girard, Ohio,to the late  Michael and Anna (Vransich) Merrick. Helen graduated from Liberty High School in 1942. She began work at General Electric, Niles plant, 1947 to 1986, retiring as a bulb inspector. While never having married, one of her greatest joys was watching her nieces and nephews grow into responsible adults. Helen leaves behind nieces and nephews; Clorinda Moore, of California, Dorothy Blake of Niles, Dennis Merrick, of Michigan, Janet Beuchler, of Georgia, Anita Ballard, of Florida, Gary Merrick, of Girard, Lynne Merrick, of Georgia, Dwayne Merrick, of Diamond, Ronald Merrick, of Youngstown, Nancie Sue DeRaub, of Liberty, Stephen Merrick, of Youngstown, Nick Sostaric, of Howland, and Donna Wear, of Youngstown. Also surviving Helen are seven great-nieces, eleven great-nephews, seven great-great-nieces, and six great-great-nephews. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Emily Merrick of Georgia. Preceding Helen in death are her parents, brothers; Nick, Pete, Eli, George, Joe, Steve and sisters, Mary Lipka and Ann (Bunny) Merrick. Also deceased are niece Dian Sostaric and nephew, George Lipka. Family and friends may pay their respects to Helen from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Saturday, January 28th,at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, with services to follow at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, and to honor Helen's life, the Merrick family requests that monetary gifts be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, Ohio  44512, or to the donor's charity of choice.
