Jack R. Fynes, 91, of Niles, passed away suddenly on Saturday January 10, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Jack was born January 9, 1924 in Girard, the son of George and Jane Johnson Fynes. Jack was a decorated Army veteran of W.W. II, receiving two Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star and was active in the Army Reserve for 8 years after his discharge. He had worked at the Ohio Leather Works for 30 years and later at Republic Steel for 17 years as an engineer, retiring in 1987. Jack was a member of the First Christian Church in Girard and enjoyed his family,hunting, fishing and gardening. He is survived by his wife, the former, Barbara A. Mikacinich, whom he married March 26, 1948, his children; Sandra (Jim) McFadden of Niles, Jack (Pam) Fynes of Perrysburg, Ohio and James (JoAnn) Fynes of McDonald, brother Harry (Jan) Fynes of Girard, brother-in-laws; John (Anne) Mikacinich and Lowell Miles, both of Girard, eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his sisters; June Miles, Doris Wagner, Mary Cobb, Faye Walters and Ruth Rush and his brothers; Thomas and James Fynes.
