James H. Funkhouser, 91, of Liberty Twp., passed away on Thursday May 15, 2014 at Gillette Nursing Home. James was born September 18, 1922 in Edinburgh, Virginia, the son of the late James W. and Esther Ludwig Funkhouser. He retired from P&LE Railroad as a switch machine operator. He enjoyed bowling at the Holiday Bowl in the Old Timers League, his morning visits with his friends at Bob Evans and McDonald's in the evenings. James served his country in the US Army during WWII. He is survived by his daughter Mary Lou (Kenneth) Hassel of Cortland, sister Marguerite of Winchester Virginia, grandchildren Mark (Sarah) Hadley, Tim Hadley and Tiffany (Neil) Stamm and great-grandchildren Isaac, Caleb and Grace Hadley. He is preceded in death by his wife, the former Frances Valentine, whom he married July 11, 1944 and died in 1995, daughter Darlene Funkhouser, sons James A. and Wayne Funkhouser, four sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 19th, 11:00 AM at Blackstone Funeral Home. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 3-6 PM.
