At YSU, he was a member and one term president of the fraternity, Alpha Phi Delta. Throughout high school and college, he worked for his uncle at Patton's Sparkle Market in Hubbard. Jim began his teaching career at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in Niles and then at Farmington. The majority of his career was spent as an elementary and middle school principal at Bristol and briefly at Farmington. Before retiring from Bristol in 2006, Jim immensely enjoyed planning science fairs, the annual Veteran's Day assembly, and taking students to Washington, D.C. He was a very patriotic man and spread this value to his students and the Bristol community in which he served. Jim also coached cross country, basketball, baseball, football, and soccer at several local schools and in the Girard community, including St. Rose. Also, as a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Youngstown, he served as an usher.
Throughout his life, Jim had many hobbies and continued interests. Athletically as a child, he played many sports, especially basketball, and as an adult, for leisure he enjoyed golf. He was a devoted Cleveland sports fan and always bonded with his son in their love for all things Cleveland. In the warmer months of the year, Jim could be found spending the majority of the day outside, planting flowers, doing yard work, and enjoying nature.
