James D. Kather, 93, of McDonald, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Autumn Hills Nursing Home. James was born July 7, 1923 in Dallas, Texas, the son of John C. and Zelma Kather. James had served his country in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. After the war, he worked as an independent truck driver for 40 years retiring in 1982. James was a member of Summit Assembly of God Church, Teamsters Local #377 and Light For The Lost councilman. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 66 years, Charlotte M. (Grove) Kather, whom he married April 29, 1950, his children; John (Nancy) Kather of Hudson, New Hampshire, Jeffrey (Debra) Kather of Hopewell, Virginia, Joseph (Tabitha) Kather of Coffee Springs, Alabama and Janyce (Paul) Stone of Ravenna, Ohio, sister Maudell Yarbrough of Oklahoma, brother Thomas Kather of Ithaca, New York, sixteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. James is preceded in death by his daughter Faye Travers, son James Jr., sister Martha Grace and brother Gene Kather. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30th, 12:00 PM at Summit Assembly of God Church, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service and also on Thursday from 5-8 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard.
