Jay Scannell, 68, of Southington, passed away unexpectedly at his home. Born in Youngstown, on October 5, 1955, a son to the late Myron and Jules (Pugh) Scannell.
He was a graduate of Poland High School in 1975. After graduating high school, Jay enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country.
Jay was known for his passion for music, particularly playing the guitar and composing blues songs. His musical talents led him to be part of numerous local bands, making a mark in the music scene throughout his life.
Jay is survived by his daughters, Caryn Burns and Carissa (Jeff) Kinsley, as well as his nephew Bill (Marcy) Chase, several great nieces and nephews, and five grandchildren. He also leaves behind close friends and caretakers Bill and Joelle Hatala.
Jay is preceded in death by his sister Nancy Hettrick and brother Walter "Pete" Scannell.
A celebration of life will be held on a later date.
