Jimmy G. Tyree

Chief Jimmy G. Tyree, 78, of McDonald, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at his home, with his family by his side. Jimmy was born October 25, 1942 in Moorehead, Kentucky, the son of Earl and Delma (Holbrook) Tyree. Jimmy served his country in the US Navy for four years. Hebegan a career in law enforcement in 1963 and in 1969 became a police officer for the Village of McDonald. In 1984 one of his greatest accomplishments was achieved when he was awarded the title of Chief of Police which he wore proudy until his retirement in 1998. During his time serving his community, he received many awards for his outstanding service. After retirement, Jimmy continued his law enforcement career serving the Vienna Police Department and the Vienna Airbase. He was an active member of F.O.P Lodge #194 holding many titles including President, and was an active member of the Mahoning Valley Police Chief Association serving as secretary. He continued his pride for his community by serving on the zoning committee and being a flag bearer for the annual Thunder in the Park Car Show. Jimmy’s work didn’t stop there, he went on to work for The Ohio Turnpike for 10 years. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of McDonald. Jimmy was an avid Cleveland sports fan and Ohio State Fan and loved to cheer on his McDonald Blue Devil teams by attending as many games as he could. Jimmy’s greatest accomplishment and title in his life was Grandpa. He took the most pride in his 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 56 years, Mary Lou (Stamp) Tyree, whom he married January 16, 1965; his daughters, Wendy Tyree (Juan Freeman), of McDonald and Lori (Thomas) Babik, of Macedonia, Ohio, his brother, Crawford "Ty" (Charlotte) Tyree, of Estero, Florida; and his grandchildren, Chelsea (Mike Vitucci) Welch and their son, Vincenzo, Jacqueline Welch and her daughter Riley Zickefoose, Chase Welch, Alex Babik and Rebecca Babik as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters; Loretta "Sis" Bacha and Charlotte Goldner; his brother, George Tyree, and his nephew Edward Goldner III. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 15th, 11:00 AM at Blackstone Funeral Home, in Girard. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-6 PM and also on Monday from 10-11 AM, at the funeral home. Jimmy will be laid to rest at Green Haven Cemetery with military honors. The family suggests any memorial contributions be made to Traditional Health for their exceptional care of Jimmy in his last days.
