JoAnn Kovach

JoAnn Kovach, 80, of Girard, passed away peacefully on Thursday January 8, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was born May 8, 1934 in Girard, the daughter of the late George and Marie Kane Maholtz. JoAnn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, having previously worked for U.S. Steel, McDonald Works. She was a member of St. Rose Church in Girard and a card club with her friends.  JoAnn is survived by her daughter, Linda, who she made her home with, sons; Larry (Colette) Kovach of Hubbard, Dan (Elaine) Kovach of Liberty and Rick Kovach of Warren. JoAnn leaves six grandsons; Nick (Megan) Kovach of Lancaster, Ohio, Scott of Morgantown, WV, Kevin of McDonald, Jacob of McDonald, Corey Burns of Warren and Alex Kovach of Tiften, GA. She leaves her sister Dorothy Maholtz and a sister-in-law, Joyce Maholtz, and a brother-in-law Jack Rice. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Gabe Kovach, who she married on October 8, 1955 and preceded her in death on April 3, 2011, a brother; James F. Maholtz and sisters; Margaret Smythe and Liz Rice. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, January 12th, 11:00 AM at St. Rose Church, preceded by a prayer service at 10:30 AM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 4-7PM at the funeral home.
