John A. Balko Jr., 82, of Liberty Twp., passed away Thursday April 24, 2014 at his residence. He was born April 11, 1932 in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, the son of the late John A. and Mary Stranko Balko Sr. John worked as a millwright for 42 years at WCI Steel retiring in 1997. He was a member of St. Rose Church, F.O.E. #2172 and U.S.W.A. #1375. John was an avid bowler, Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. He was a hard worker-played hard and devoted to his family whom he loved very much. He is survived by his son, Jack (Cathy) Balko of Girard, daughters, Paula Fleming of Liberty Twp., and Judi (Michael) Sheesley of Girard, sisters, Mary Ann "Sis" (Calvary) Bias of Cleveland and Helen (Michael) Puskar of Mt. Pleasant, PA., brothers, Stephen Balko of Warren, Walt (Kaye) Balko of Acme, Pa., and Bernie Balko of Mt. Pleasant, PA., eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis D. Balko who passed away March 8, 2007, sister, Dorothy Stanek, brother, Joseph Balko and granddaughter, Christine Sheesley.Funeral Services will be held on Monday April 28th at 11:00 am at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard officiating the service will be Msge. John Zuraw of St. Rose Church. Family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 4-8 pm and Monday from 10:00 am till time of service at the funeral home. John will be laid to rest at Churchill Cemetery. The family request that material contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market Street Youngstown, OH 44512.
