John "Jack" Canter

John "Jack" Canter, 82, of Girard, passed away January 30, 2015 at Autumn Hills Nursing Home. He was born August 20, 1932 in Liberty Twp., the son of the late Andrew and Mary Vortilla Canter. Jack worked at Ohio Leather Works for 15 years and Packard Electric for 25 years as a machine repair man, retiring in 1995. He was a member of St. Rose Church. Jack enjoyed playing pool, bocce, hunting & fishing. He is survived by his wife, Ann (Gordon) Canter, whom he married on February 14, 1951, children, John A. Canter of Youngstown, Michael Canter of Pennsylvania, Gerald (Cheryl) Canter of Pennsylvania, and Kathie Mallory of Girard; sisters, Marie Presco and Margaret Ann Greytok; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, George, Eddie & James Canter and his sister, Florence Maholtz. Family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday February 4, 2015 from 5-7 pm at the Blackstone Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Thursday February 5, 2015 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. John will be laid to rest at St. Stephens Cemetery.
