John J Jones Jr.

John J. Jones Jr., 95, formerly of Girard, passed away November 13, 2017 at Altercare in Stow, Ohio. John was born January 10, 1922 in Canton, Ohio, the son of John J. and Marie (Smail) Jones Sr.  John graduated at age 16 from Girard High School.  He attended Youngstown State University and worked at Packard Electric before serving in the Army during WWII.  In 1949, he received a BS degree in Business Administration/Accounting from YSU.  He worked for 27 years as a Treasury Agent in the Intelligence Division for the Internal Revenue Service prior to his retirement in 1977.  John was an avid tennis player, world traveler and sports enthusiast throughout his life.  He was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard, a member of the Girard Historical Society, and delivered Trumbull County Mobile Meals for many years.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother Edward, and wife Dorothy (Von Kaenel) Jones, whom he married in 1953 and who died in 1997; and wife Charlotte (Nuzum) Jones whom he married in 1999 and who died 2012.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his cousins Robert (Lynnda) Hoefler of Stow, Ohio; Randall (Debbie) Hoefler of Plano, Texas; and Rose Marie Black formerly of Murrysville, Pa., Charlotte's step-children, his friends and dear neighbors.

A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 78 E. Liberty St, Girard, Ohio at 11:00 am on November 17, 2017.  He will be laid to rest in Girard Liberty Union Cemetery.
