John A. Martin Sr.

John A. Martin Sr., 80, of Girard, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at his residence. John was born January 15, 1936 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Filberto and Bertha W. (Plasky) Martini. John was a graduate of Youngstown State University and had worked for Copperweld Steel as an industrial engineer. He was a member of the Hubbard United Methodist Church. John was very active and enjoyed all  kinds of sports, including tennis. He loved to travel abroad and was an avid YSU Penguins fan. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 44 years, Barbara (Carroll) Martin, whom he married August 19, 1972. his daughter, Cyndi L. (Vincent) Fazio of Cleveland, his son, John A. (Lori) Martin Jr. of Dallas, Texas, his stepchildren, Vicki L. Mancini of Girard, Tracey S. (William) Flowers of Hubbard and Donald J. Miller of Hubbard, and two grandchildren, Philip and Blake Martin of Austin, Texas. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Richard Martin.  The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The YSU Foundation, Athletics Contribution, 606 Wick Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44502 . Funeral services will be on Thursday, December 22nd, 7:00 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, where the family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5:00 PM until the time of service.
