Kathleen R. (DePascale) Spess

Kathleen R. Spess, 72, of Vienna, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.  Kathy was born July 5, 1945 in Ashtabula, Ohio, a daughter of John and Mary Ann (Melago) DePascale.  Kathy graduated from Youngstown State University with a BSN degree and had worked for St. Elizabeth's Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital and retired as a school nurse for Niles City Schools.  She was a member of St. Thomas The Apostle Church in Vienna. In her younger days, Kathy enjoyed playing softball, tennis and bowling. Though perhaps not an actual hobby, Kathy was a fantastic cook who made every holiday and family event a gourmet experience. She enjoyed going to the casino with her husband, was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeye's football team and the Cleveland Indian's. Most of all Kathy loved spending time with her family and especially the grandchildren. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Victor J. Spess, whom she married August 20, 1966, her son, LTC David (Emily) Spess of Seattle, Washington, her daughter, Gina (Duke) Hunt of Annapolis, Maryland, her grandchildren; Victoria, Katie, August and Connor and her brother, Bart (Erin) DePascale of Okiatie, SC. Besides her parents, Kathy is preceded in death by her infant sister, Mary Ann DePascale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 17th, 11:00 AM at St. Thomas The Apostle Church. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 5:00 -8:00 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, and also from 10:00 - 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the church.
