Kathryn M Rice

Kathryn M. Rice, 92, of Girard, died Tuesday December 17, 2013 at her residence. She was born July 30, 1921, in Girard, the daughter of the late Charles and Lylia O'Shaughnessy Zimmer. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Rose Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She is survived by her daughters, Virginia (Frank) Smith of Girard, Marjorie O'Malley of Girard, Jean Rice of Palatine, Illinois and Elaine (Harry) Brenner of McDonald, five grandchildren, Cara Lynn Fisher, Catherine O'Malley, Elizabeth O'Malley, Megan-Alyse O'Malley and Michael O'Malley. She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert N. Rice whom she married May 10, 1947 and died January 9, 2011, sisters, Mary Tompkins, Adeline Zimmer, Madeline Sheehan, Alice Marcarello and Velma Thorne and brother, Carl Zimmer. A Mass of a Christian Burial will be held on Friday December 20, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Rose Church preceded by a prayer service at 10:30 AM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard.  Family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5-7pm at the funeral home. Intement will be held at Girard City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests any material contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley.
