Kenneth A. Hunter

 Kenneth A. Hunter of Howland Township and Naples, Florida, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 9. Ken was born on March 8, 1942. He was the only son of the late Arthur and Gertrude Bangert Hunter. His sister, Janet Herman, preceded him in death. He has two surviving sisters: Barbara May (Fla/Cle) and Linda Jackson (LA). 

 Ken grew up in Liberty Township and graduated from Liberty High School in 1960. After high school, he served in the US Air Force Reserves for 6 years, while attending Youngstown University to get his Business Administration degree. At the same time, he worked at Denman Rubber Company in Warren. He married Judy Black, also of Liberty, in 1964. They recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. 

 After receiving his degree in 1967, he went on to work at Mohawk Rubber Company in Akron. During that time, Ken built homes on the side. Ken and Judy raised three daughters: Kendra (Bryan) Lane of Powell; Audra (Mark) Buckley of Howland; and Alyson (John) Vrabel, also of Howland. Ken’s seven grandchildren (Morgan, Kendyl, Kamryn, Drew, Adam, Jared, and Anna) lovingly called him ¨Bumpa.¨ He loved spending time cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events and spending time together on family trips to Florida.

 In 1977 he left Mohawk to pursue his love of building and became the owner of Hunter Design and Construction Inc. and Hunter Design and Builders LLC. He designed and built approximately 700 homes and at least ten medical and professional buildings in mainly Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Hunter Design also began developing land in 1990, which included several Howland neighborhoods, including Willow Creek Condominiums, Brittainy Oaks, Hampton Homes, Kensington Manor, and Kingston Commons. Ken served as the President of the Mahoning Valley Builders Association for two years and served on the board of directors for many years. 

 He was a charter member of Pleasant Valley Church, where he served as a board member and was very active on several building projects. He was instrumental in the building of Grace Fellowship Church at the Eastwood Mall Complex. He was currently attending North Mar Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Warren.

 Ken loved to live life to the fullest. He truly enjoyed working, spending time in Florida, golfing, and reading. He firmly believed that his life and work should honor God, and that helping others was of utmost importance. As much as he loved his wife, family, and helping people get their dream home, his first love was his relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Ken wanted others to know that on his best day, he was nothing more than a sinner saved by grace.

 As per Ken´s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. However, there will be a Celebration of Life in honor of Ken on his upcoming birthday, Saturday, March 8th, from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Grand Pavilion/Avalon Inn. The family extends an open invitation to all who knew Ken, and were touched by his life. Please plan to join them.
