LaVerne A. Penza, 90, formerly of Girard, passed away Friday, June 9, 2017 at Masternick Memorial Nursing Home in New Middletown. LaVerne was born July 13, 1926 in Girard, the daughter of Daniel and Sarah (Hardwick) Krumanocker. LaVerne moved to St. Louis at a young age. At age 6 she was a band leader. During the depression she was the only family member to have a job. From the age of 7-10 she had her own radio show telling children's stories. She moved back to Girard at age 10. Family owned Danny's Coffee Shop in Girard and later Krumanocker's Steak House where she worked and learned to cook. She graduated from Girard High School in 1944 and went to work in the office of the Defense Plant in Lordstown. LaVerne married Naldo S. Penza on August 8, 1946 and together they raised their son and three daughters. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family. In her younger years, LaVerne enjoyed dancing, camping, loved shopping and flea markets. She leaves to cherish her memory her children; Thomas (Lissa) Penza of Columbus, Lesa (Raymond) Soltes of Munroe Falls, and Renee (Don) Harris of Otesego,Michigan, her nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Naldo, who died on March 28, 2013, her daughter Gayla Nail and her brother Daniel Krumanocker. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 14th, 11:00 AM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
