Lawrence D. Caras, 83, of Liberty , passed away on Wednesday January 8, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital after a brief illness. Larry was born August 8, 1930 in Youngstown, the son of the late Thomas and Lucy Gatti Caras. He was a graduate of The Rayen High School in 1949 and served in the US Airforce. He was a telecommunications technician at Ohio Bell/ AT&T , retiring after 32 years, where he was affectionately known as "The Greek". Larry was a member of St. Rose Church, Knights of Columbus and the IFH Club. He was an avid golfer and volunteered as a starter at the Avalon Lakes golf course for many seasons. Larry was a well-rounded individual who enjoyed life. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former, Jean Appulese, son Larry Caras of Covington, Ky, daughter Janeen (Paul) Kollat of Aurora, Ohio, identical twin granddaughters Jenna & Lucia and grandson Paul, sister Cathy (Augie) Chimento, sister-in-law Eileen Caras and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother James Caras, nephew and niece Jon and Gayle Caras. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday January 13th, 11:00 AM at St. Rose Church, preceded by a 10:30 AM prayer service at Blackstone Funeral Home. in Girard. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 3-6PM at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
