Lawrence L Whetson

Lawrence L. Whetson, 87, of Keller, Texas, formerly of Liberty Twp., passed away on Friday January 24th, 2014 at The Legacy at Bear Creek.  Larry was born January 15, 1927 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late Charles and Sevilla Waltman Whetson. Larry attended Poland Seminary High School and served in the Navy and Army during WWII. He worked 24 years as a machinist retiring in 1974 from Wean United in Youngstown.  Larry was a member of Keller United Methodist Church and a former member of Church Hill United Methodist Church were he served on the Worship Commission and Memorial Commission.  He was a former life member of the Youngstown Men's Garden Club (Master Gardener) were he was an accredited judge, the Hubbard Men's Garden Club,  a Band Father and Band Manager for the Warren Junior Military Band and active with Liberty Band Boosters.  He is survived by his sons Robert  Whetson (Diane) of Haslet, Texas and Gary Whetson (Nora) of Liberty Twp,  granddaughters Erin Dugger  (Logan) of Krum, Tx. and Melissa Whetson of Liberty Twp., grandsons Christopher Whetson (Randi) of Anna, Tx, and Adam Whetson of Liberty and great-granddaughters Riann Whetson, Aubree Whetson and Kylieanne Dugger and great-grandson Kent Whetson. He is preceded in death by his wife, the former LaVerne E. Mapstone, whom he married June 16, 1951 and died Dec. 4, 2005, brothers Charles Whetson Jr. and James Whetson and sisters Betty Henley and Patrice Davidson.  Funeral services will be held on Friday Jan 31st 1:00 PM at Church Hill United Methodist Church.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5-7PM at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard and also on Friday from 12:30 until the time of service at the church.  Larry will be laid to rest at Churchill Cemetery.  Upon Larry's request any material contributions may be made to Church Hill United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, Covenant Hospice and Palliative Care of Fort Worth, Tx.  Visit www.blackstonefuneralhome.com to view this obituary and to send condolences to the Whetson family.
