Lena B. Carson, 97, of Girard, passed away on Thursday February 13, 2014 at her residence. Lena is the daughter of the late Anthony and Grace Pannunzio Phillips. She was a 1936 Graduate of East High School where she was in the National Honor Society. Lena had worked as a secretary for Griffith Insurance Agency in Girard. Lena was a member of St. Rose Church in Girard, and a former member of Girard Senior Citizens. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and spending time with her family. Lena will be remembered for her friendliness and kindness and will be sadly missed by her daughter Linda Houck and husband David of McDonald, granddaughters Kristen Flere and husband Todd, and Courtney Kunkel and husband William III, great-grandchildren, Brock and Kylie Flere and her niece Janet Meier of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Lena is preceded in death by her husband of 63 wonderful years, Michael W. Carson who died on Dec. 17, 2006. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 5-7:15 p.m. at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard where there will be a prayer service held at 7:15 p.m. Lena will be laid to rest at Girard City Cemetery.
