Lenora "Lennie" Schmalzried

Lenora "Lennie" Schmalzried, 70, of Girard passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. Lenora was born July 24, 1949 in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of the late Martin and Bridget (Gorman) Walsh. She was a 1967 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School. Lenora was a member of St. Rose Church where in her earlier years volunteered at St. Rose School. She had worked for General Fireproofing, Arby's administrative office, and Ohio Bell, but her greatest joy in life was taking care of her family. Lenora loved swimming at the Jewish Community Center, and most of all devoting her time to family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Leona McClaskey of Salem,Ohio, Robert J. Schmalzried Jr. of Girard, Lynn (Daniel) Pomponio of Lewis center, Ohio, and Marty Schmalzried of Columbus, her grandchildren, Megan McClaskey, Heather McClaskey, Kaitlyn Pomponio, Christopher Pomponio, Megan Pomponio, and David Pomponio, and her great grandchildren, Aiden, Paisley, and Stella. Lenora is preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Schmalzried Sr., whom she married November 11, 1972 and died January 7, 2017, and her sisters, Mary Kay Rauschenberg, Alice Stran, and Sally Deemer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 24th, 11:00 AM at St. Rose Church preceded by a prayer service at 10:30 AM at Blackstone Funeral Home. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, August 23rd, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home. Lenora will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery next to her husband.
