Lucille Mazza, 96 of Girard, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday November 19, 2014. She was born June 4, 1918, a daughter of Pasquale and Josephine Luarde Julian, and was raised in McDonald, Ohio. She graduated from McDonald High School where she enjoyed playing basketball. Lou was an avid sports fan, and loved watching sports of all kinds. She enjoyed trying new things and taking on new challenges. She especially enjoyed sewing, bowling, golfing, cooking, traveling and walking the Mahoning Golf Course. Lou was a member of St. Rose Church in Girard. She became an LPN in her 50's and practiced pediatric nursing at St. Elizabeth Hospital for 15 year and later worked for Stringer's Jewelry Store until she was 88 years old. She was active in the Girard Senior Citizens, playing the organ for them, and traveling with the group on many trips. Lou married Angelo "Gig" Mazza on May 4, 1938 and he died suddenly in 1977. Lou and her husband Gig, raised Lou's cousin, Elizabeth Jane Pastore from the age of seven. As Lou's health was failing, so Jane and her Husband Jim moved into her home and took care of her, keeping her safe, laughing and loved, just as Lou and Gig had done for her. She is survived by her sister Rose Mary Corroto of Youngstown, Jane (Jim) Jones of McDonald and was known as "Mimi" to Jane and Jim's children, Thomas Angelo Jones, James Seth Jones Jr. and Luanne (Jones) Murray. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Laura Young, Netta Wessel, Gloria Vince, brothers, Leonard and Fran Julian. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2014, 12:00 PM, at St. Rose Church. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, at the church, from 11:00 AM until the time of Mass.
