Marcella Romandetti

November 27, 1933 — October 25, 2024

Hubbard

Marcella (Marg) J. Romandetti, 90, of Hubbard, formerly of Liberty Twp, passed away at sunrise on Friday, October 25, 2024, at The Christian House in East Palestine, Ohio. Marcella was born November 27, 1933, in Washington, PA, the daughter of Stanley Walczesky who was killed in a mining accident when Marcella was 3 yrs old and raised by her devoted mother Stella and stepfather, John Maxgay.

Marcella met the love of her life, James (Jim) Romandetti on a blind date in 1953 and they married on February 27, 1954, at St. Charles Parish, Boardman, Ohio. Marcella was a recent member of St. Patrick's Church, having relocated to Hubbard, Ohio within the last five years. She and James had been long time members of St. Rose Church in Girard, Ohio.

After graduating from North Lima High School in 1951, Marcella worked in the Palace Theater’s front office in bookkeeping. In later years, as her children went off to school, Marcella took a position with Liberty Township as a bookkeeper to the Treasurer, Russell Banner. Marg would retire in 1995 from the Liberty Local School District, Youngstown, Ohio after holding a variety of positions and culminating as the district’s Treasurer.

Marcella was a devoted mother and caregiver to her five children. She was an active participant in the Liberty PTA, football parents and multiple parent/student sporting groups. She enjoyed baking and became a talented and sought after cake decorator for friends’ and family events. She also enjoyed new recipes, tending her gardens and flower beds, sewing/crocheting and was a huge patron of her children and grandchildren’s creative, musical, and athletic endeavors. She was their cheerleader, biggest fan, and chief encourager. She loved watching/following the Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Indians, the Cavaliers, YSU Penguins, and OSU Buckeyes. She appreciated all things ‘sports’….and was an avid supporter, often rooting for the underdog. In later years, Marg was the tireless and tender primary caregiver of her husband Jim and daughter, Darlene as they both struggled with declining health prior to their deaths in 2016 and 2000, respectively.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children; Kathleen Morrison, of Indianapolis IN., Karen (Joe) Gatelaro, of Columbiana, Marcy McQuary, of Twinsburg and James Romandetti, of Hubbard; grandchildren Jeff Truran, Jennifer Villavaso, Genevieve Morrison, Joe Gatelaro and Anna McQuary; great grandchildren Andrew Truran, Juliana and Sophia Edmondson; and Marg’s brother, Joseph (Ruth) Maxgay of Florida.

Along with her parents and stepfather, Marcella joins her husband James Romandetti, daughter, Darlene Romandetti Edwards; siblings Victoria Buck, Connie Aurora, Jack Maxgay.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick Church, in Hubbard, on Thursday, October 31st at 10:30 AM, where visitation will be held an hour prior to the service. A private burial will be held in Resurrection Cemetery, Youngstown, Ohio where she will rest next to her husband and daughter.
