Martha Gaston

Martha Gaston, 99, of Girard, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022 at her residence with her family by her side. Martha was born October 7, 1923 in Kinsman, Ohio the daughter of Phillip L. and Margie (Laubender) Thomas. Martha retired in 1985 as a catalog supervisor for JCPenny Co. and was a Rosie the Riveter at Goodyear Aeronautics in Akron, Ohio - 1942 to 1945. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard, where she had been very active. Martha enjoyed gardening and working in the yard and traveling. Martha is survived by her children, Marsha (Al Zavar) Albert of Denton, Texas, and Phillip Gaston of Girard; grandchildren, Elyse, Albert & Jason Zavar; great-grandchildren, Brenna, Cole, Jarod, Isaac, Adelaide and Corrigan. Besides her parents, Martha is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Gaston who died April 16, 2010; sisters, Fran Montella, Ann Thomas, Donna Lee Stucky and Myra Jo Green; and a brother Phillip Thomas. Mary Lou Westbrook of New Philadelphia, Ohio remains Martha’s loving & living sister. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard at 11:00 AM.  Martha will be interred near her hometown Malvern, Ohio at the Brown Township Cemetery.
