Martin C. Mikolaj, 89, of Girard, passed away on Sunday April 28, 2013 at Northside Medical Center. Martin was born November 12, 1923 in Youngstown, the son of the late Andrew and Mary Yash Mikolaj. Martin was one of the best plasterman in the area, working for several different construction companies. Martin had first worked for Commerical Shearing, General Fireproofing, was a part-time bartender for his brother-in-law, Sam Jordon, at the Golden Pheasant Night Club, and retired in 1986 after 22 years from RMI in Niles as a sonic operator. He was a Sergeant in the Army Air Corp during WWII training pilots and was also a mechanic for the aircraft. Martin was a member of St. Rose Church and a 4th degree in the Knights of Columbus. He loved to work, enjoyed dancing and was the best Grandpa to granddaughter Lauren. Martin will be deeply missed by his loving daughters, and son-in-law, Theresa (Jerry) Reinhardt and Melinda Mikolaj-Cipriano, both of Girard, and granddaughter Lauren Reinhardt. He is also survived by sisters Dorothy Jordan of Ft. Myers, Florida and Theresa Semchee of Austintown, and brothers Bob Mikolaj of Girard and Cyril Mikolaj of Austintown, his special friend for many years Lillian Heben and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, the former, Caroline Jordon, whom me married February 27, 1943 and died June 15, 1999, sister Florence Mikolaj and brother Andrew Mikolaj. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday April 30th, 9:30 AM at St. Rose Church, preceded by a prayer service at 9:00 AM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery will military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 5-8PM at the funeral home.
