Mary J. Zirafi,90 ,of Girard, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2016 at the Humility House in Austintown. Mary was born July 19, 1925, in Girard, Ohio, a daughter of Frances "Frank" J. and Mary J. (Caputo) Capella Sr. Mary had worked part-time delivering flowers for Perry's Flower Shop, but for most of her life she was a homemaker for her family. Mary was a member of St. Rose Church and a life long member of Mt. Carmel Society. She enjoyed family vacations with her children and grandchildren and vacations with her friends. For many years, Mary enjoyed trips to the casinos with her husband Scrappy. Mary is survived by her children, Robert A. Zirafi of Girard, Samuel J. (Mary Ann) Zirafi III of Girard, and Christine M. (Susan) Zirafi of Bay Village, Ohio; her grandchildren, Kevin, Jason and Chad Zirafi and Jacquelyn Crandell. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel J. "Scrappy" Zirafi Jr., whom she married April 27, 1946 and died August 18, 2014, and her brothers, Joseph, Frank Jr., John and Austin Capella. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 15th, 11:00 AM, at St. Rose Church, preceded by a prayer service,10:30 AM, at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 PM and also on Friday from 10:00-10:30 AM, at the funeral home. Mary will be laid to rest at Pineview Cemetery. A mercy meal will be prepared in Rosetta Hall, immediately following the mass, and all attending guests are welcome to join the family. The Zirafi family is asking anyone who wishes to honor their mother, that they make donations to St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main St., Girard, Ohio 44420, or to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, Ohio 44512, in memory of Mary, or may send live or artificial flower arrangements. We are asking our family and friends not to send plants or planters.
