Mary Catherine "Kitty" (Nemer) Rotar

There will be a Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Maron Church, 1555 S. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, with Chorbishop Michael Kail officiating for Mary Catherine "Kitty" Rotar, 93, of Girard, who passed away peacefully Saturday, November 4, 2017, with her loving family by her side.

Kitty lived life to the fullest and was very involved in her community and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Mary Catherine was born April 19, 1924 in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of Ferris and Sara (Joseph) Nemer.

She was a member of St. Maron Church. She received her bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University and graduated magna cum laude. She earned her master's degree from Westminster College. She was an elementary teacher at Harding Elementary for 23 years prior to her retirement in 1987. During her time as a teacher she wore many hats to include her instruction of all grades at Harding Elementary, a dyslexic teacher, as well as teaching reading at Youngstown State University.

She was a member of the garden club, golf league, multiple bridge clubs, the Jewish Center, St. George Club, the Ohio Teacher's Association, the Ohio Education Association, the National Education Association, the Saint Tobias Club and she was a den mother for Boy Scouts of America. Her most rewarding legacy however was her family, whom she loved dearly.

She leaves to honor her memory her husband Don Rotar Sr., whom she married November 29, 1984, her son Dale (Georgia) Clemens Jr. of Florida, her stepchildren Donald (Kathy) Rotar Jr. of Toledo, Maggie (Jeff) Valloric of Colorado, David (Annie) Rotar of Florida, and Carolyn (Michael) Novotny of Youngstown, her sisters Betsy Featsent of Youngstown, Sister Mary Augustine of Kenya, and Terry (Tony) Khoury of Hubbard, her grandchildren Melissa (Josh) Scherman of California and Brent (Heidi) Clemens of Illinois, her step grandchildren  Sean (Jenelle) and Jason (Torre) Rotar, Michael (Nicole) and Jennifer Valloric, Joseph (Candace) and Anthony Rotar, Steven (Sarah), Ryan (Joree) and Nicole Novotny, her great- grandchildren Rhys and Marlowe Scherman, and four great step grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Dale Clemens Sr., whom she married in October 1947 and died November 1982, and her sisters Jeannie Featsent and Bobbie Scharrer.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday, November 13, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard where the Prayers of Incense Prayer Service will take place at 7:30 pm., friends and family may also pay respects on Tuesday morning, November 14 from 9:00 am until 9:45 am at St. Maron Church, 1555 S.
