Michael J. Meser peacefully went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 31, 2011. Mike was born in Youngstown on February 28, 1932, the son of the late John and Barbara (Fok) Meser. He graduated from Chaney High as a National Honor Society member and from Youngstown College with a degree in Sociology. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War as an aviation electrician. Mike was a family man who was an avid fan of the Mahoning Valley Button Box Club, loved dancing to their polkas and waltzes, enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and traveling, and was interested in trains and airplanes. In 1981, he retired from US Steel after 30 years as an instrument repairman. Mike was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church (having served on Parish Council), the Croation Lodge, and the Slovenian Lodge in Girard. He is survived by his wife, the former Irene H. Mihelich, whom he married June 15, 1957; his children: John (Denise) Meser, Mary Laska, and Mickey Meser;
sister Milly Serensky; and grandchildren Melissa Laska, Renee and Matthew Meser. He also loved relatives Barb and Augie Angel, Jack and Karen Tomaino, Jim and Marti Tomaino; Joe, Rich, Steve, and Tom Serensky; Sue and Jim Dreiling; Francine and Lawrence Hall; Sylvia, Jim, and John Messer; EttaMae and John Messer; Steve Gavran; Paul, Mary, Laura, Paula, and Linda Laska; Louella, Marvin, and MaryLou Friend and Kelly Fry; Clara, Paul, Paul Jr., and Dave Weymer and Terri Perry; Lil, Bob, and Bill Kozel; Emerick and Mary Wallerick. Preceding him in death were his sisters Ann Tomanio and Mary Fintor, brothers Duke and Jim "Zip" Messer, nephew Bronco Serensky, and cousin "Sheriff" Gavran. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perptual Help, at 10:00 am on Friday, August 5th, with Fr. John Madden officiating, preceded by a prayer service at 9:30 AM, at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. Interment will follow at Resurrection
Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.
