Naomi M Hughes

Naomi M. Hughes, 91, of Liberty Twp., died Tuesday June 24, 2014 at the Hospice House. She was born February 25, 1923 in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of the late George and Beatrice James Visscher. Naomi graduated from Liberty High School in 1942 and Youngstown School of Cosmetology. During WW II she worked at Briar Hill Shipping, office of Sheet & Tube Co. She managed a salon from many years and later worked for Ralpheal's Beauty Supply at Eastwood Mall. She was a life time member of Church Hill United Methodist Church for 50 years, Sunrise Chapter #458, O & S, Ruth Shrine #64 and White Shrine. She enjoyed having lunch with her graduation girls, gardening, walking, and was a avid reader. She leaves her daughter Candace Smolkovich and son-in-law Ron Smolkovich of Liberty, two granddaughters, Kristie Cruz and Kari Altiere, six great-grandchildren, Brittany (Phillip) Swank, Megan Noel, Brian Altiere, Katie Morgan, Nicolas Cruz and Myah Cruz, great-great-grandson, Bryce P. Swank, niece, Darlene Hall of Valparaiso, Ind., nephew, James Weimer of Alachua, Florida, and god daughter, Patti Lydic of Liberty. Naomi loved God, her family of her church and her country. Her honoray family son, Bill Michalechick of Florida, daughter, Linda Raphoon of Cortland ,granddaughter, Megan of Michigan, and James Vandercrake of Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Hughes whom she was married to for 64 years died in 2007 and infant daughter, Kathy Bea Hughes. Funeral Services will be held on Friday June 27, 2014 at 12:00 noon at the Church Hill Methodist Church in Liberty Twp. Family will receive relatives and friends from 11am till time of service at the church. Family request material contributions be made to Churchill memorial fund, Liberty branch library and Hospice House. Naomi will be laid to rest at Belmont Park Cemetery.
